July 31 St. Bees to Cleator 7.5 miles Grove Court (old schoolhouse)
I just emerged from a bath that feels like the best bath in the world. We are 7 more miles down the road from St. Bees in Cleator at the Grove Cottage Hotel getting ready for a nap that feels like it will be the best nap in the world.
The path is intriguing- with kissing gates to go through, railroad trestles to go under, private fields to cross and sheep to mingle with everywhere. Horses too. It takes a lot of skill to navigate and the maps we have are minutely detailed.
We left about 8 this morning and 4 hours later arrived here in time for some pub lunch. Nothing to write home about food wise today!
Our bridge playing commenced around 5 followed by a very typical English dinner. Some thinly sliced beef in gravy, Yorkshire pudding, potatoes and some cooked veggies.
The weather? Nothing like the heatwave back home. Clouds prevail with a little drizzle now and then and some blue skies passing through.
Tomorrow we approach the Lakes District, recently designated a world heritage site and ..... the rainiest place in Britain.
Now we are settled in our rooms indulging in the tiredness that comes from some residual jet lag and the activity and fresh air.
Watching some British TV we hear that Trump fired Scaramucci. Holy moly. The whole world is watching.
We haven't seen many walkers yet. The local people are very friendly. Wondering a lot about what employment options are here.
You'll have to ask Craig about his experience at the metal trough in the loo!!
Some photos showing the terrain of the day.
