Orton to Kirkby Stephens 11.8

Ah, it's been a good day.  The weather was lovely and we traipsed and climbed over hill and dale with our share of bogs nd rock wall traversing.

Signs were plentiful and we stayed together pretty much as a group today.  The Australians were around, the women walking from Southern England, and the couple from Sheffield. Quite lovely.

We're tired but happy and this feels more familiar.  Found out that the Coast to Coast walkers begin arriving and stay around through daylight savings time ending in October.

Here's a capsule of the day.  It doesn't however show us all crossing the field of cows when one of the mamas charged at one of our walker friends!  She got between mama and her baby.  All turned out well.

Loveliest place so far.  The porridge making is an art that I aim to perfect.  This man soaks the oats in milk the night before and then cooks slowly.  In milk.  They are so creamy and sweet!  Today we had in addition to the porridge scrambled eggs with smoked salmon (closer to lox) on English muffins.  Yes- ENGLISH muffins.

Our place

Hooray for signs!!!

Dinner at the Mango Tree. Very delicious Indian food.  The British Empire!!

A place to scrub our boots.  They are caked with sheep poop and mud

We have clean clothes.  All clean and fresh from the clothesline .  The things we take for granted. Cost is 15 pounds. And tomorrow is our half way point.

Here's our mingling laundry and a few more pics:
