August 7,Kirkby Stephens to Keld 10.3 miles
Oh this was a most difficult day. Let me just say that we were all bogged down. We spent a bit of time discussing the possible derivation of that term. Boggy. Sinking in. Sucking one down. That was the terrain. And it seeped into psyches as well. Even though we elected to walk the road after locals told us it was too wet to go high, we were despondent.
According to locals, this is the wettest 6 weeks in 30 years.
We're at the half way point today and from here, the rivers have switched direction and.run East into the North Sea.
No birdsong, only hills and sheep. So many sheep. And rock walls.
The clouds got in my way. Today.
By evening when we convened in the lounge at the lovely inn, we were ready to quit. Talk revolved around going home early, figuring out how to spend this next week in Scotland.
Dinner was lovely and very delicious. I will leave it here and tomorrow's entry will reveal all.
