Wednesday, August 16, Glaisdale to Littlebeck 8.8 miles

Phew enjoyed our stay here.  The home is beautifully designed and updated but still maintains its English 100 years old style. Gardens are plentiful with many of the foods grown here- gooseberry jam, the veggies, etc.

Our hosts were very accommodating as we lingered after dinner to play bridge.  Speaking of bridge it was an epic game with Barbara and  me getting our grand slam!

In the morning our conversation turned to political as we tried to digest the news of the day.  The Charlottesville debacle has just happened.  Our host joined in; she is as frightened and incredulous as we are and is. It the first person we've met who has drawn the comparison between DT and Hitler.  Disturbing.

We are at that time in our journey where we are ready to stop, to return to our homes but also realize the difficulties we will have when our bodies and souls crave the walking, the movement, the fresh aire, and the simplicity of this way of being.  We know that we must stay informed but we need to be aware of the over-saturation point of media input.

This stay was a highlight.

Barbara's happy place: the waymarks!!

Our Downton Abbey

The Lord of the Manor collected these tariffs.

Our stop for lunch in Grosman included these scones.

Tonight we're staying at a working farm.  As we walked in, a herd of 100s of sheep came through. We have a video!  Our clothes are drying quickly in the warm breeze and sunshine.  Our weather is perfect- what a shift since a week ago when we were ready to head for Scotland!!
